Mizzen and Main: Latest Unboxing and Blazer Review

Hey gents, all you eagle-eyed viewers will know I am a fan of Mizzen and Main, which is why I’m so excited about my latest unboxing. I bought several of their newest pieces that I want to talk about, including the blazer you’ve all been asking me to cover. But first, some news.

Mizzen and Main no longer make all of their stuff in the United States. They make excellent products, but like several young companies, including Taylor Stitch, they’ve grown so much that their scale of manufacturing can no longer be accomplished in the U.S. By industry standards, this is actually quite common. There are some very rare exceptions like Allen Edmonds, but many clothing brands outsource their products from all over the world and continue to manufacture in the United States, and this isn’t entirely a bad thing. I know from speaking to the Mizzen & Main CEO that they’re sourcing their products from various parts of Asia specifically because you can’t get the level of fabrics needed for high-quality products in the U.S.

I’m not particularly disappointed: for me, the fact that Mizzen & Main was U.S.-made was a bonus point. As with all brands I recommend, my main concern is whether the product is good quality. I still proudly recommend Mizzen & Main for this very reason, even if they can no longer produce exclusively in the United States.

I’m told that production of their Spinnaker Collection (below) will remain in the United States because it’s a smaller line. They’ve grown from a fledgling startup that I discovered a while ago to a powerhouse in the menswear industry and they’ve had to adjust accordingly.

If you still want to find products made in America, I’ve got you covered. In fact I’ve made a whole page devoted to that called American by Choice. Check it out!

Now let’s move on to the unboxing.

Mizzen and Main Pickups

There are several new pieces in this unboxing that I’m stoked to share with you. You may know that they started with shirts when they first launched but they now make vests, flannels, and pullover sweaters, all three of which I bought. You’ll also be happy to know that I got their new blazer you’ve been wanting me to review. Ask and you shall receive, gentlemen. Awhile back they had it, then they took it away, but I’m glad they’ve brought it back: after all, a blue blazer is a staple in any stylish man’s wardrobe, and I recommend this one if you don’t yet have one.

Flannels

First, we’ll start off with their flannels. Mine comes in at $145 and I love what Mizzen and Main is able to do with their Leeward Collection. They take the same synthetic performance fabrics that they use throughout their collection, but they still manage to make the shirt feel textured and unique.

It’s not quite as stretchy as their other flannels, but they still have the same moisture-wicking and moveability as their other pieces.

Pullover Sweaters

Next up, we have their sweaters. As you may know, I have a sweater from them that I bought a year or two ago and it actually became one of the most worn pieces in my closet.

The one I feature here comes in at $125. I really like the colors that they used in this collection and the color composition is similar to the one I bought a while back. Because they’re made with performance fabrics, these pullover sweaters are super easy to wash and clean. As an added bonus, they’re extremely comfortable. Finally, these sweaters works well as layering pieces when you consider its versatility. They’re very easy to dress up (pair with a dress shirt, tie, wool slacks) or down (polo, jeans, sneakers).

Vests

Then, there’s the vest. I love vests. A lot. In fact, my wife gives me a hard time because I wear one almost every day and I’ve put all my stuff into it. Pictured below is a softer version of what I have. It’s more of a knit vest than anything (almost a sweater vest!) and like the pullover sweater, it’s a layering piece. More specifically, it’s a wrinkle-free layering piece made from a super-soft cotton-modal blend. This vest is great for travel or daily wear, and pairing it over a flannel or casual button-down would make a nice fall look.

A few more notes on the vest…

You have two zipper pockets out on the side with really nice Mizzen and Main stickers and a hidden one on the inside. Then, you have the outside pockets as well. This vest is made up of 55% cotton and 45% modal. Like the sweater, it’s going to be easy to wash, it should hold up well over time, and I find that to be really nice about these sweaters.

And now, gentlemen, the moment you’ve been waiting for…

The Mizzen & Main Blazer has returned!

No joke, I was over the moon when I found out about this. The Lavelle Blazer is back in stock, gentlemen. It comes with its own dust bag which is a very neat (and rare) addition. The blazers that they offered a few years ago retailed for $495 and they were made in the U.S.A. As for this new version, I really like it. Nowadays, many performance blazers are 100% polyester, but Mizzen & Main made a bold move with their decision to keep theirs 100% wool. It’s unstructured so it’s still very breathable and lightweight.

The blazer has a very nice drape to it and it’s very casual. However, you can certainly dress it up. Like most blazers, it’s a very versatile piece and will pair well with just about every button-down and trouser you own, including jeans.

As far as it being performance in the way you would think of for Mizzen & Main, wool is essentially nature’s performance fabric. If properly cared for, it won’t wrinkle easily. The fact that they priced this blazer at $395 (over $50 cheaper than the last time it was available) was an unexpected but welcome surprise. Overall, I’m super happy with the fit and feel of it: this is a blazer that will look always good.

Final Thoughts

So, there you have it gents. Overall, I liked everything that Mizzen and Main had to offer in their new collection. Even though they’re going to transition to production outside of the U.S., I’m confident that the quality I’ve come to count on from this brand is here to stay. See for yourselves. You’ll be glad you did
